2016 Speech and Debate Program
The National Championship Coaches of the Speech and Debate Team of Irvine Valley College present: Spring 2016 Speech and Debate training at Crown Academy. These 13 weeks long classes work to build the foundational skills for being an effective communicator and competing in academic speech and debate.
Spring programs are split into 3 different grade levels: K-2nd, 3rd-5th,and 6th-12th.
Communication Fundamentals : Oral Communication Critical Thinking
The California Common Core State Standards put an emphasis on reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The UC system and all other top school systems require their students to take classes that train students in critical thinking. This class will teach students college level skills that directly improve their reading, writing, and speaking abilities in class and give them the skills to compete at speech and debate tournaments.
This class includes:
● Pre/Post testing for mastery. We test students abilities when they enter the class, during the class, and on the last day of class.
● College level teaching: College professors, College speech and debate coaches, or national champion college students mentor your students
Students will learn:
● Basic research skills
● How to organize and perform a competition level speech
● Assessment. Research shows that students who can accurately assess their own performance and the performance of others, are the same students who are accepted into the most elite Ivy League Schools
Class frequency: 6th-12th every Thursday afternoon from 4:00PM to 6:00PM Total fee for this program: $910.00 /13 wks
4th-5th every Friday afternoon from 4:20PM to 5:50 PM Total fee for this program: $540.00 /12 wks
K-3rd every Friday afternoon from 3:15PM to 4:15 PM Total fee for this program: $360.00/12 wks
Class schedule: The Spring program starts on Jan. 7 and ends on Mar. 31 lasting 13 weeks with a total 26 hours.
