The National Championship Coaches of the Speech and Debate Team of Irvine Valley College present: Summer 2015 Impromptu, Extemporaneous, and Debate training at Crown Academy. These three classes work together to build the foundational skills for being an effective communicator and competing in academic speech and debate. The classes may be taken together or separately. However, each class builds on the others to produce a deep and lasting change in ability.  

 

Programs are split into 3 different grade levels: K-3rd, 4th-6th, and 7th-12th

 

The IVC System

  • National leader in speech and debate education

  • Multiple local, state, and national championship winning teams

  • Award winning coaches

These classes aren’t just about learning to perform in a competition. They are designed to simulate a college classroom experience. This gives middle school and high schools students an advantage over other students in note taking, thinking, writing, and collaborating

 

The Student Advantage

  • The full college classroom experience

  • The same lessons the national champion IVC team receives

  • Build confidence, clear and powerful delivery, interpersonal skills, and competition level skills in

    limited preparation events and debate

  • Progress is measured using a mastery based test

  • A college speech and debate coach will give each student an assessment of which skills they

    performed well and where they need to improve.

 

The Camps

Communication Fundamentals

June 29th­ – July 10th

Students learn basic speech organization and delivery skills such as:

  • Confidence

  • How to organize a speech

  • Clear and effective speech performance

  • The foundations of critical thinking

  • How to assess their own performance to become self sufficient students

  • How to assess other students and work as a team

  • Basic impromptu speaking (learning how to give a speech with very little time to prepare)

 

The Bridge to Debate

July 13th­ – July 24th

Students build a deeper understanding of limited preparation speaking, research skills, and begin a transition to debate:

  • Build on the lessons learned in Communication Fundamentals

  • How to evaluate information (newspaper articles, research, etc)
  • How to build a speech by using written evidence

  • Argument Construction

  • Extemporaneous speaking (speeches requiring longer preparation and evidence

 

Debate​­

July 27th – ­August 8th

Students learn the basics of academic debate

  • Build on lessons learned from camps 1 – 2

  • How to build a persuasive case

  • Researching and Presenting Evidence

  • Teamwork / Collaboration

  • Argument construction for debate

  • Debate for academic competitions

 

***K-3rd grade camp runs Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM***

***4th – 6th camp runs Monday through Friday from 10:00 Am – 11:30 AM***

***7th – 12th runs Monday through Thursday 9:00 am – 11:00 am. And Friday 9-12pm and/or 1-4pm (practice sessions – students may practice in either morning or afternoon or both sessions, at no extra charge)***

 

Tournament

● On August 8th, IVC will host a developmental tournament designed to reinforce what the students learn in class

课程简介:

皇冠演讲与辩论课程为期六周,由即兴演讲,命题演讲和辩论重点三个课题组成。每一个课题学习两周。其中周一至周四每日讲授新的内容,周五为练习日,用来总结和运用之前 四日学习的内容。这些课程的学习和训练不仅仅是为了让学生能够达到竞赛的水准,更重要的是,我们的课程设计给学生们提供了同龄人在普通课堂中学习不到的东西。包括更高水平的笔记方法,思维方式,写作方式,以及和不同队友之间在思辨中的合作。

这六周,我们将会给同学们一个完整的大学课程体验。同样的课程模式和内容在IVC训练出超过20个全国冠军队伍,那些同学在刚刚开始训练时也没有任何辩论或演讲的经验。我们的教学经验证明,六周的集中训练之后,同学们将能够非常自信,清晰,完整,缜密的表达自己思想,在人与人的沟通上面会有明显的提高。完整上完课程的同学们将能够达到竞赛水平,在没有准备或者有严格时间限制的准备的情况下,仍然能够快速并清晰的表达出自己的思想。

学习过程中,课程设计中包含了对 同学们掌握知识的不断考核,以保证每位同学都能够达到上述的水平。我们请到的资深大学老师和演讲辩论教练将会为每一位同学都作出细致的评估以及建议。

暑期课程安排:

演讲与辩论课程分为青少年班(7th – 12th)、儿童班(4th-6th)和幼儿班(K-3rd)。

暑期演讲与辩论课程从6月29日开始到8月7日结束,分三期,每期两周时间。

上课时间:

青少年班(7th – 12th)  周一至周四的上午9:00AM – 11:00AM, 周五的上午9:00AM – 12:00PM 或者下午的1:00PM – 4:00PM。

儿童班(4th-6th)  周一至周五的上午10:00AM – 11:30AM。

幼儿班(K-3rd)  周一至周五上午10:00AM – 11:00AM。

第一期:(6/29- 7/10) 初级班--交流基础班

从演讲技巧及内容的基础开始训练,适合完全没有任何基础的同学们。这两周的课程结束后,同学们将能够:
a. 自信的表达自己的思想
b. 掌握演讲的组织和结构
c. 清晰有效的表达演讲的内容
d. 为辩证思维方式打好坚实的基础
e. 学会有效的评估自己的演讲内容和口才,掌握自我提高的工具
f. 学会有效的评估其他同学的演讲内容及口才,并在这个过程更有效的建立团队在思维上的合作
g. 即兴演讲的基础。即兴演讲是指学生在演讲之前几乎毫无准备。题目即兴,之 后学生将会有非常有限的时间(几分钟)来准备即兴演讲的内容,随即进行演 讲。只有在掌握了以上的方法之后,学生们才能够在如此短的时间内能够框架 出自己想要表达的内容,在没有进行具体内容排练的情况下将自己对于题目的 理解脱口而出,并且能够达到有理有据清晰完整的表达。这不仅仅对于同学们的口才有帮助,甚至对于平时的写作也会有帮助。

第二期:(7/13-7/24)中级强化班,——辩论过渡班
在掌握了一定基础后,这两周的课程将会让同学们对于即兴演讲和命题演讲有更深刻的理解。并逐渐将这种理解融会贯通到思辨的过程中,这两周的训练之后,同学们将能够:
a. 在之前的交流基础之上对演讲有更深刻的理解
b. 学会如何分辨并归类信息,这些信息包括新闻,学术研究结果,他人的评论等等。
c. 学会如何有效地用论据来支持自己的观点以让演讲的内容更加丰满和值得信 服。
d. 学会如何组织演讲中论点
e. 命题演讲:与即兴演讲不同,命题演讲给了同学们更长的准备时间。但实际 上命题演讲的难度却更高。因为这是在有了演讲的基础后又加入了高效并且 有针对性的寻找论据来支持自己的观点的过程。同学们将学习如何查找料, 判断资料的可用性以及可靠性,筛选有利的资料并将其整理成论据,最后有 条理的利用这些论据支持自己的观点,完成更缜密的命题演讲。经过这两周的训练,同学们将会真正做到在讲话和写作时都有理有据。这个过程中会有大量的阅读和筛选,这样的训练对于以后同学们进入高级的research课程和写作 打下坚实的基础。

第三期:(7/24-8/07)高级班 ——辩论过渡班
最后两周的培训是辩论的基础。这在之前演讲的基础上又增加了难度,充分提高同学们的应变和辩证思维的能力。这两周的训练会为同学们在之后的辩论赛打下坚实的基础。 通过最后两周的学习,同学们将能够:
a. 灵活的运用前四周所学习到的演讲的技巧与艺术,并将其融会贯通到辩论的过程中。
b. 学会如何完整的建立有说服力的观点并提供有效的论据来支持自己的观点
c. 学会如何充分的进行调研以寻找对自己有利和能够辨驳对方的论据。
d. 学会与不同队友的合作与分工。其中不仅包括有充分准备的合作,也包括临场应变的合作。
e. 学会如何高效的组织辩论中的论点。
f. 最终,同学们在两周的辩论课程后将能够参加辩论比赛。将所学到的知识融会贯通。这不仅仅是在赛场上,更是在生活中当同学们表达自己的观点
是也会更有理有据。

课程结束后的比赛:
8/8日在IVC将举行演讲与辩论赛,我们充分鼓励我们的学员们报名参加比赛。他们在六周的强化训练后将完全有能力参加这样一场专业性的竞赛。这不仅是一个检测教学成果的机会,更是给了学员们一个锻炼的机会。也会让优秀的学员们有机会在自己的简历上画上漂亮的一笔。这场比赛目的在于提高南加州中学生及高中生的辩证思维,提高同学们的辩论水平。近些年,越来越多的家长和同学们开始重视辩证思维能力的培养以及演讲口才和辩论技巧的培养。我们所训练出来的学生屡屡在辩论竞赛中获得名次,这将会为同学们今后的升学提供不少的帮助。
